A History of Innovation

Established in 1977, our award-winning team delivers international projects from our UK-based advanced manufacturing facility.

1970s

Founded in June 1977 in a modest workshop in County Durham, J. F. Dyer & Son began as a small family business established by John Dyer and his son, Paul. The duo focused on manufacturing pipe fittings, mould tools and providing engineering services to support the local mining industry.

1980s

The business continued to grow and flourish, employing more and more local people until the late 1980s when John decided to retire, entrusting the company to Paul, who took on the responsibility of leading the business forward independently.

1990s

Over the next decade, Dyer Engineering continued to grow, establishing itself as one of the largest employers in County Durham. During this time, the company became a key player in the regional engineering sector, renowned for its skilled workforce.

2000s

In 2001, the business embarked on a significant expansion of the Annfield Plain site, increasing its capacity to meet growing demand and support its evolving operations. The site continues to serve as one of our primary bases of operations to this day.

2010s

Paul Dyer made the significant decision to retire in 2013, passing the leadership of Dyer Engineering to its new owners, Graeme Parkins and Richard Bradley, in June of that year. Under their stewardship, the company embarked on the most substantial growth journey in our history.

2020s

Following a multi million pound investment round, Dyer has grown into a globally respected engineering company. Operating across two sites in County Durham, we employ over 180 skilled professionals and proudly serve a diverse range of customers around the world.
