ESG Impact

What we do matters. It matters to our business, to our people, to our community and to our planet.

Smarter Stronger Together

Smarter Stronger Together are the guiding principles that define how we operate and interact with the world. Serving as our core DNA, they shape our culture, drive our decision making, and unite us in our shared purpose.

Target Zero

Target Zero

We’re continually driving towards Target Zero by thinking SMARTER to develop new approaches, leading us to become a STRONGER business with improved results, whilst all pulling TOGETHER as a team to make it happen.

  • Our team expect zero accidents
  • Our partners expect zero defects
  • Our community expects zero impact on our environment

Our Framework

Our ESG approach is holistic and embedded within the fabric of our company. Rather than isolating ESG initiatives as standalone goals, we have integrated them into our performance targets to align with our commitment to sustainable growth. Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our ESG strategy is organised into four comprehensive plans.

Decent Work and Economic Growth Industry, Innovation and infrastructure Sustainable Cities and Communities

Sustainable Business Plan

We work with our people, our customers and our partners to build and support a sustainable business that is headquartered in the North East of England and provides world class Engineering services and excellent employment opportunities. We actively work with our value chain to reduce overall waste by products.

Climate Action Life on Land Responsible Consumption and Production

Environmental Plan

We commit to reducing our energy consumption generated by greenhouse gases by 10% against revenue and reducing waste from our production and logistics process that goes to land fill by 2026. We aim to use sustainable methods in our manufacturing processes and pay attention to our waste created for life on land and in water, both ours and in our supply chain.

No Poverty Good Health and Well-Being Quality Education Gender Equality Reduced Inequalities

Social Impact Plan

We know that our people make our company, and we commit to them and our community to continuously measure and improve upon areas we know have the biggest impact on them; creating sustainable and well-paid jobs, opportunities to learn and progress and enabling social mobility in our community. We recognise that a strong talent pipeline comes from having STEM links in local schools and colleagues, this along with the charitable and community work we undertake will help to leverage our social impact.

Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions Partnerships for the Goals

Corporate Governance Plan

We commit to the Sustainable Development Goals as defined by the UN, to act with ethical behaviour and uphold our code of conduct. We respect all laws and regulations for the countries we operate in and will always act with integrity. We work in partnership with authorities and market regulators to maintain our reputation to ensure the long-term confidence and security for our people, our customer and our stakeholders.

Our Community Impact

With 82% of our people living within a 10-mile radius of our site, our business choices have a direct impact on the surrounding communities, and we are committed to enriching the local area.

Fundraising

We support the Red Sky Foundation Charity and in July 2024, 12 of our team took on the 135 mile Coast 2 Coast bike ride to raise over £7,000. The Red Sky Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of babies and children in our region, who are born with or develop heart conditions and who are in need of cardiac care, by providing lifelong support to them and their families.

Durham Foodbank

We were proud to be able to support Durham foodbank by providing custom-made sorting tables, designed and manufactured by their team, free of charge. Run by Durham Christian Partnership, the foodbank operates 38 distribution centres across the region and in 2023, provided essential food and toiletries to over 35,000 people, including 12,500 children.

Tanfield School

A team of 4 pupils from Tanfield School reached the final of the VEX Robotics competition in Dallas, and we were able to sponsor the team to make the trip over the Atlantic, supporting local STEM education and inspiring the next generation of engineers.

Girls Grassroots Football

We’re sponsors of the Deerness Valley FC Cheetahs, an under-12 girls’ football team. The partnership will enable the Cheetahs to focus on developing their skills and competing against teams from across the region, free from the worry of financial barriers.
